After having run the ING New York City Marathon 2013, last weekend, the Haitian athletes Clovis Astrel, Carline Lamour, Bertine Lainé, Jean Macksony supported by the J / P Haitian Relief Organization (J/P HRO), did not hide their satisfaction and contentment of having participated in this event which was attended by more than 48,000 athletes worldwide.
Following his muscle injury, Petrus Césarion could not participate in this great competition and wants to earn a medal for Haiti next year.
“It is majestic of having participated in this major international event. Despite the inevitable drop in temperature in New York, I kept my pace to reach the finish line in time (2:46:52) that I had set and I thank the leaders of J/P HRO for giving me this opportunity and I hope that this is not the last”, said Astrel Clovis, the best Haitian runner.
“While I shudder at the moment, I can not believe I had the opportunity to have this experience and I must say that this marathon has marked my life as an athlete”, said Bertine Laine.
Thanks to these brave athletes who were able to convince their audience during this marathon, J/P HRO has raised, according to officials, nearly 300,000 U.S. dollars for the foundation of Sean Penn who intends to support J/P HRO programs which continue to provide healthcare, education, the construction and the safe return to permanent housing for people remained homeless since the devastating earthquake in Haiti.
In June, Haitian athletes participated in a half marathon in Haiti at Petionville to qualify for the team J / P HRO and participate in the ING Marathon 2013 in New York.
